Iván Sainz-Pardo

Iván Sainz-Pardo (Madrid 1972) holds a degree in film and television by the prestigious Munich Film School (HFF München). He works as a director and script writer of films and commercials.

He has won more than 500 Awards at film festivals around the world, an Academy Award (Oscar) pre-nomination, GOYA 2018 prenomination, DeutscherKurzfilmpreis nomination, and Best European Short Award at the International Fantasy Film Festival of Brussels. He received also the "Shocking Shorts Award" of 13th Street TV Channel, for which he was invited to do a Film Master at Universal Studios in Los Angeles. USA.

In 2020 he directed the second unit of the international thriller TV-serie “The Head” from Mediapro Studios.

Right now is working also on his first feature film in Germany with Neos Films and Leonine Studios.

What was your drive behind making this film?

Behind the Scene

Iván Sainz-Pardo: Just wanted to work with actors again and I needed to tell a new story. I wanted to film something very short but really shocking!



How you feel when you are awarded with the MP FILM AWARD Award?


Iván Sáinz-Pardo: I would be very proud and Happy.



Can you tell us about the greatest moment during shooting this film?


Iván Sáinz-Pardo: I wanted do make a short film with only sequence shot. To have it right is a wonderful feeling.



How rigorously did you stick to the script while shooting?


Iván Sáinz-Pardo: Script was not the important one thing in that case, The choreography with the camera and the good acting was the most difficult and the most important.



Where there any onset problems During the filming of the film & how did you deal with it?


Iván Sáinz-Pardo: It was a perfect short shoting day. We were finish in only 4 hours.



Do you have any advice for young filmmaker out there? Or like yourself?


Iván Sáinz-Pardo: Never make excuses not to shoot something. You just need a location, a couple of actors and believe in yourself and the story you want to tell.



Do you think it is essential to go to a film institute in order to become a successful filmmaker?


Iván Sáinz-Pardo: I have studied film directing at the Munich School of Film and Television, but many great directors have never been to film school. There's no need. Everything that can be learned there is found in books or in experience itself. It is best to just film non-stop.

Which particular film maker has influenced you the most?


Iván Sáinz-Pardo: Steven Spielberg



Which book would you love to make a film out of one day?


Iván Sáinz-Pardo: One with a cool Producer behind.



If you got the opportunity to go back in time & change something in any particular movie of yours, then which movie & what changes will you opt for?


Iván Sáinz-Pardo: I would have started making short films earlier.



If you were to shoot the film again, what would you do differently?


Iván Sáinz-Pardo: Nothing. I love it.



What is your greatest achievement till date?


Iván Sáinz-Pardo: My 11 month old son.



How do you pick yourself up after a failed film?


Iván Sáinz-Pardo: I start shooting the next one.
