What was your drive behind making this film?
Jordi Barbosa, Juan Antonio Barbosa: We were looking for something close but global. How will be science-fiction in a near future. Guess about network future, about smartphones future, about next technological generation. Or even discover how manipulable is a human being.
How do you feel when you are awarded with the MP FILM AWARD.
Jordi Barbosa, Juan Antonio Barbosa: We are so proud to receive an script award, this is something really amazing for us. The script is something you start from scratch and Little by Little it becomes alive, this is something organic between developer and the created universe.
The magic of the 7th art starts in the shooting process. When you visualize at the screen all you have written for months and discover how actors assume and acquire its role.
Can you tell us about the greatest moment during shooting this film?
Jordi Barbosa, Juan Antonio Barbosa: There are a few, hahaha. I explain you a couple of... We have such a huge number of scenes to film in an office building. Even we were filming for 12 hours with no stop at this location, at the end of the day we were dancing a Catalan rumba, I have a prove on that hahaha.
Another interesting shooting day was at an operating room with all the typical surgery machines and a real surgeon with us. Mercè, Iris in the film, laying down on a bed for more than an hour. Sortly the operation went well hahaha. We are so lucky to have a totally committed team!
How rigorously did you stick to the script while shooting?
Jordi Barbosa, Juan Antonio Barbosa: Very much, the script is our guide. When you arrive to a specific location the time is tight, so you cannot hesitate, you have to follow the script so strictly. We work it so hard in advance to assure filming process in the best way.
Where there any onset problems During the filming of the film & how did you deal with it?
Jordi Barbosa, Juan Antonio Barbosa: Setbacks always appear, I remember that Mercè (Iris) the main actress, in her first day of filming. I remember she had a cold for an entire month.
Do you have any advice for young filmmakers out there? Or like yourself?
Jordi Barbosa, Juan Antonio Barbosa: We don’t use to give advice. Nevertheless, always do totally the opposite people tell you have to do. This is definitely our recommendation.
Do you think it is essential to go to a film institute in order to become a successful filmmaker?
Jordi Barbosa, Juan Antonio Barbosa: We haven’t studied cinema nor attended any cinema school so we do not know. For 40 years we’ve been watching films and reading comics about different topics. This is our main knowledge.
Which film has inspired you the most?
Jordi Barbosa, Juan Antonio Barbosa: I’m not able to mention just one!! Lots of!!
Which particular filmmaker has influenced you the most?
Jordi Barbosa, Juan Antonio Barbosa: Some of the masters are John Carpenter, David Cronemberg, Paul Verhoven, Brian de Palma, Sergio Leone, and more recently Alex De la Iglesia, Dennis Kelly, Denis Villeneuve, Nolan, Spike Jonze, Sofia Coppola, Robert Eggers, Park Chan-wook, Kathryn Bigelow and more…
Which book would you love to make a film out of one day?
Jordi Barbosa, Juan Antonio Barbosa: Our Friends, Joan and Mireia, are writers in their free time. They love writing and we love them for that reason!! We’d be grateful to adapt some of their novels to a film.
If you got the opportunity to go back in time & change something in any particular movie of yours, then which movie & what changes will you opt for?
Jordi Barbosa, Juan Antonio Barbosa: All the cinematic stories we’ve performed are because of their specific time. We start filming with a medium range smartphone, what would we do? All we have done till today is a learning for us, it has been necessary, it’s been our school. With EQUÁNIME, a new step is done, not only technically but also in terms of production.
If you were to shoot the film again, what would you do differently?
Jordi Barbosa, Juan Antonio Barbosa: There are always things that do not convince you but anyway I do not change anything. This is our job, our webserie, with its virtues and deffects.
What is your greatest achievement till date?
Jordi Barbosa, Juan Antonio Barbosa: Definitely EQUÁNIME webserie.
How do you pick yourself up after a failed film?
Jordi Barbosa, Juan Antonio Barbosa: Well, right now we don’t have any comercial interest. If some day we have the chance, we Will let you know.
