Marcello Quintella e Boynard, brazilian screenwriter, directed his first short film in 2010, "Besieged" (Sitiados), that was selected in nearly 50 film festivals around the world and won two best movie prizes, including the audience award winner in the Can-Con Movie Festival - CortoTokio 2010. In 2011, he created his own company, Fata Morgana Filmes, with which produced "Hooji", short film that was selected in film festivals in over 40 countries and received, until now, 60 awards. “The name of the day” (O Nome do Dia), his third film, received 55 awards. “Afterwards” (Depois) is his fourth short film and won, until now, 28 awards. The last three shorts where selected in about 310 film festivals.

What was your drive behind making this film?
Marcello Quintella e Boynard: I was with a theme in my mind, talk about the mourning phases after a divorce, situation that I personally know. I use my experiences to build my screenplays.
How you feel when you are awarded with the MP FILM AWARD Award?
Marcello Quintella e Boynard: I felt so glad and happy. And all the team felt the same.
Can you tell us about the greatest moment during shooting this film?
Marcello Quintella e Boynard: All the moments were magical. The artists and the crew members felt a very strong connection with the project. I answered exactly this about all the movies that I directed, because I do all that I can do to have a pleasant set to everyone.
How rigorously did you stick to the script while shooting?
Marcello Quintella e Boynard: The script was influenced by the actors, because the progressive and intimate connection between them created new layers of characters construction. Of course, it contributes to build new situations to the narrative. It was a very rich process.
Where there any onset problems During the filming of the film & how did you deal with it?
Marcello Quintella e Boynard: The set was very very peaceful. The problems were the usual, like to respect the daily shooting schedule, despite some very graphically elaborated scenes. I can’t say that it was a problem, but a challenge: let the actors feeling safe and good to do the sex scenes with a very respectful ambiente.
Do you have any advice for young filmmaker out there? Or like yourself?
Marcello Quintella e Boynard: Read, listen, study, create a good basis to learn filmmaking. After, find your personal way to do it, discover your cinema language to do something really special.
Do you think it is essential to go to a film institute in order to become a successful filmmaker?
Marcello Quintella e Boynard: No, exactly. The most important is to be a good movie buff, see all the films that you can see, whatever the genre. Like Tarantino.
Which film has inspired you the most?
Marcello Quintella e Boynard: Is very difficult to express all my inspirational bagagem in just a title. But I like Truffaut’s “Les 400 Coups”, Almodóvar’s “All About my Mother” and Ozu’s “Father and Daughter”. I like films that treat the human soul and its deep feelings.
Which particular filmmaker has influenced you the most?
Marcello Quintella e Boynard: François Truffaut.
Which book would you love to make a film out of one day?
Marcello Quintella e Boynard: I word with original screenplay sand I don’t have the intention to film some adaptation.
If you got the opportunity to go back in time & change something in any particular movie of yours, then which movie & what changes will you opt for?
Marcello Quintella e Boynard: Thanks for the question. I wouldn't change anything. Every movie, even with its flaws, expresses who I was at the time. If I can’t change me in the past, I can’t change what I did.
If you were to shoot the film again, what would you do differently?
Marcello Quintella e Boynard: Nothing, really. I assume and respect my mistakes.
What is your greatest achievement till date?
Marcello Quintella e Boynard: Be an moviemaker in Brazil. It isn’t easy...
How do you pick yourself up after a failed film?
Marcello Quintella e Boynard: I do another one. Just it.
