Robert L Butler Jr is an award winning indie actor, writer, editor, producer and director. He was won 159 awards and 104 nominations for his films We Need to Talk, The alliance, Real Love and for film that he is currently filming The Alliance 2 The Hunt for Breeze. He is originally form Washington D.C, served 20 years in the US Marines, retiring in 2004 and relocated to Seattle Washington to pursue his dreams of being a actor and filmmaker
About the Film: Synopsis: The Alliance 2019 Film Synopsis:
The Alliance- 4 drug dealers call a truce and form an Alliance, but nothing good last forever. After 20 years of peace one member is forced to kill the others.
What was your drive behind making this film?
Robert L Butler Jr: The lack of meaningful roles for people of color in the Pacific North West was my motivation to write The Alliance.
How you feel when you are awarded with the MP FILM AWARD Award?
Robert L Butler Jr: It was an honor to receive the award, I was shocked and still am at all the awards my film has received.
Can you tell us about the greatest moment during shooting this film?
Robert L Butler Jr: Greatest moment was while filming the movie, having the script become a finalist at Cannes Screenwriting contest..
How rigorously did you stick to the script while shooting?
Robert L Butler Jr: I mainly stuck to the script but since I was only filming on weekends and filming was for 8 months, I was able to add to the script to make the film even better.
Where there any onset problems During the filming of the film & how did you deal with it?
Robert L Butler Jr: Yes I had a crew member that was constantly late, and joking around too much, messing up my creativity. I talked to him after filming, did not was to cause a scene in front of the actors, but it really did no good and that person eventually left the project.
Do you have any advice for young filmmaker out there? Or like yourself?
Robert L Butler Jr: Treat your cast and crew with respect if you cant pay people the least thing you can do is feed them, and most of all team work makes the dream work!
Do you think it is essential to go to a film institute in order to become a successful filmmaker?
Robert L Butler Jr: For me it was, helped with my screenwriting and also with producing and marketing.
Which film has inspired you the most?
Robert L Butler Jr: Was not a film in particular, but the series The Wire was an inspiration
Which particular film maker has influenced you the most?
Robert L Butler Jr: Spike Lee and Quentin Tarantino

If you got the opportunity to go back in time & change something in any particular movie of yours, then which movie & what changes will you opt for?
Robert L Butler Jr: The Alliance, certain shots were not done correctly and some were not filmed at all due to time restraints
If you were to shoot the film again, what would you do differently?
Robert L Butler Jr: Different camera man
What is your greatest achievement till date?
Robert L Butler Jr: Completing a full feature film and having it on Amazon Prime.
How do you pick yourself up after a failed film?
Robert L Butler Jr: Knock on wood, have never had a failed film, just learn from past mistakes and strive to do better next time
