"At the time of National Socialism, around 500,000 persecuted and disenfranchised people emigrated from Germany and Austria. Only about 30,000 returned after 1945. Because of the drastic social changes in their home countries, for many, it was a return home to a foreign land.
Meanwhile, a sometimes very polemical and irreconcilable debate broke out between exiles and those who had spent the years from 1933 to 1945 in inner emigration.
Thomas Mann, a Literature Nobel Prize laureate living in the United States at the time, caused a furor when he firmly ruled out a return to Germany. Moreover, he stated: "I confess that I am afraid of the German ruins - the stony and the human ones."
Frank Thiess, a representative of the so-called Inner Emigration, on the other hand, considers the experience of "those who watched the German tragedy from the boxes and parterres of foreign countries" to be of secondary importance."

"Maxi is the quintessential romantic guy who wants to surprise and pamper his lady love Sophie everyday. Their romance grows over months as they meet in various places, until one wintery day he stabs her in the middle of the busy square.
Maxi brings his hands to his ears to say 'SORRY' as Sophie watches this sudden betrayal with shock. He escapes the crime scene meandering through passersby, crowded train journey and busy streets to return back home. He takes a shower only to get flashbacks of the people he bumped into, that all remind him to stay.
In the climax, we see the medical condition of Maxi and his real intentions in a sequence of flashbacks of the actual events where he attempts to kill Sophie - the same meetings which were perceived as romantic were indeed devious from Maxi's side. The story ends with a mini-reveal and a loss of the character, as the audience is left pondering whom and what to feel Sorry for!"
